Hair transplantation

Hair loss is a normal and natural process during which the hairs that fall out are replaced by new hairs, but if you notice accelerated hair loss – this is already a sign of a more serious problem. Severe hair loss mainly affects men but also women, and because of this problem, they can remain completely bald if they do not turn to experts in time.

There is no age limit when it would be best to do a hair transplant. If you have noticed severe hair loss and want to solve the problem, what you need to know is that hair transplantation is the only long-term solution!

The first stage is the one when there has been no major hair loss and then the transplant is done in the case of the individual desire and need of the client. In men, severe hair loss can last for months or even years, and then you are already a good candidate for a hair transplant. Do not allow alopecia to develop into excessive or complete hair loss, because then the transplant cannot be done, since there will not be enough donor hair. So don’t wait, contact us so that we can assess the degree of hair loss in time and determine whether you are a good candidate for a hair transplant!

During the examination, we will first establish quality control of the donor region of your hair. It is necessary to establish whether you have a sufficient amount of follicles to be extracted from the donor region for hair transplantation to be successful. During the medical examination, we will evaluate all these elements and give you a detailed assessment of your suitability for a hair transplant, as well as for obtaining maximum results.

During the first phase of the hair transplant intervention, healthy follicular hairs are taken from the donor region. Follicular units may contain one or more hairs. The extraction process itself is automated. Each individual follicular unit is approached at an appropriate angle, and then an incision is made in the skin at a certain depth to release the unit as a whole without damage. Then the follicle/graft is extracted from the donor region and placed in a solution in which it is kept until implantation.

After the extraction is completed, the second phase begins, which involves the implantation of a graft in the area where the hair loss occurred.

Hair transplantation is an extremely successful procedure that gives a completely natural result. It does not leave scars on the donor area. Thus, the hair can be trimmed later without noticing that the intervention was ever done.

Is hair transplant painful?

In most cases, the intervention is performed under local anesthesia, short-term intravenous sedation, or a combination of these two types of anesthesia. Vatanmed clinic approaches patient anesthesia with the well-known Turkish Dermojet – painless anesthesia, which is the first step to provide the client with a pleasant and painless experience during the intervention. The intervention itself is not painful. Pain may occur after the intervention, usually of low intensity, and after the procedure the patient may be prescribed painkillers as a preventive measure.

How long does the hair transplant intervention take?

The hair transplant intervention is completed in just one day, while the exact duration of the procedure depends on the number of grafts being transplanted. The average duration of the intervention is about 7 hours. During that time, the intervention is carried out in two phases, with a break in between for rest and a provided meal. The first stage involves taking grafts from the donor region, while in the second stage, grafts are carried out on the region of hair loss. To perform a hair transplant, you do not need to take sick leave or vacation. You can return to your daily activities the day after the intervention, following the doctor’s recommendations.

Are there any side effects of hair transplant?

Operating rooms are regularly disinfected, each patient receives a new set of instruments at the beginning of the intervention, so the possibility of infection is completely avoided. Our doctors will prescribe antibiotics as a preventive measure. Some patients may experience slight redness due to skin irritation in the head area, which subsides within a few days. Local anesthesia (very rarely) can cause slight swelling of the forehead, which persists for a day or two after the intervention. To prevent swelling, each patient receives a corset and anti-swelling medication. Immediately after the intervention, mild pain may occur, so the patient is prescribed an analgesic as a preventive measure. Slight bleeding in the donor area after the procedure is also possible, and gauze is applied to that area for the first 24 hours. In the first 14 days after the hair transplant, there may be mild itching caused by the healing process.

Is just one hair transplant enough?

The number of hair transplant procedures depends solely on the area of the thinning region. First, an assessment is made of the donor’s share and a decision is made accordingly. In most cases, it is enough to undergo the procedure once, but sometimes twice, depending on the extent of the region where hair loss has occurred, as well as the quantity and quality of hair from the donor area. Each donor region is different and dictates the number of grafts, accordingly the maximum number of grafts that can be transplanted during one intervention will be determined.

How to recognize a well done hair transplant?

To recognize a well-done hair transplant, you should pay attention to the following:

➡️ Natural look
➡️ Correctly defined front line (forehead)
➡️ Properly taken grafts from the donor area
➡️ Correctly distributed grafts
➡️ Adequate hair density
